About LUCTO

Community-based conservation on the Rwenzori

LUCTO works with local communities around the Rwenzori Mountains in Kasese / Bwera, Uganda to promote conservation, sustainable tourism, and socio-economic development.

We focus on tree planting, bamboo nurseries, beekeeping, skills training for youth and women, and cultural tourism that celebrates Bakonzo heritage while protecting the fragile mountain ecosystem.

Our Key Focus Areas

🌱 Environmental Conservation

Tree planting, bamboo nurseries, riverbank restoration, and climate action. We restore degraded land and promote indigenous species.

🐝 Sustainable Livelihoods

Beekeeping (36 hives and growing), youth and women empowerment, skills training in sustainable agriculture and enterprise.

🏔️ Eco-Tourism & Trekking

Rwenzori trekking (3.5km gorilla trail), cultural tours, nature walks, bird watching, and community homestays.

🎭 Cultural Heritage

Promotion of Bakonzo culture, traditional dances, crafts, storytelling, and rituals at sacred sites like Erihongero.
